casenut1, The 2 inch pipe you see came from his old ballast, which was a wooded box attached to the pipe before the pipe bent and broke. He had 22 cement block in it. I figured that's about 50# each, close to 1100# give or take.
The neighbor is 78. He knows what he is doing. He knows what works and what doesn't. He only has 8 very nice looking cows. Raises the calfs for about a year before sending them to the sale barn. It's his hobby, something to do.
He is kind of cheap too. He said he doesn't want to spend money on a 3 pt spear.
This isn't the first thing I've built for him. Look at my pics, I too know how rear ballast works. The rear wheels can handle it better than the front wheels and front axle. george
