I used to work at a lumber yard and organizing different types is a pain. My best idea so far is storing my stuff vertically in a section of my barn mow by width and type, ie- all 2x4 SPF in one slot, all 2x6 SPF in another, all 2x4 treated in a 3rd, sheets of plywood in a 4th, etc. That takes up a lot of room though and many people wont have it.
My plan at this point is to take the section of the mow where I store this stuff and put a second floor over that area. I'll build some stairs op there and make it a storage area for the household "stuff" we have there and then use the lower section for lumber and maybe do my plaining and table saw work there.
