It is supposed to be a registry of sorts where professional people hang out, and can search for new career paths, jobs, and such. Supposed to be very professional type place.
Two things went wrong with it.
In their zeal to get more web traffic (web traffic is how these places make money, a bit of a penny per visit....) they got a little carried away trying to invite people to join up.
Then, the spammers took over and really flooded the emails with fake ads to join up to LinkedIn.
Too the point, don't know why anyone would want to be associated with that site any more.
