For protection, I just use a quality auto polish and remove the bug splatters between washings.
A few years ago, I bought a used minivan and it had the air deflector--bug deflector-- across the hood.
Thing is, there were very few bug splatters or chipped paint, but the deflector pads rubbed the paint where it was connected!
Put on for protection and did damage???
They may not all be the same but I would not want another.
Kind of like a bed liner protecting the bed of truck but rubs the paint off. On the last truck I bought, I added a bed liner to cover the damage.
