I've been able to help some folks out with advice/info, and I've never seen the need to be thanked, and I certainly wouldn't refuse to offer info a 2nd time to someone that didn't thank me.
If you 'need' to be thanked, that's your issue, not mine.
And, since someone already commented on it, every time I see that V/W thing, I always think of a 3-4 year old running into a gathering of adults and shouting "Look at me, look at ME!".
