It is relatively easy to play fiddle on the easier tunes. I started learning to play fiddle at age 64 and of course can't play the really fast stuff or do accurate double stops, but I can play reasonably OK on slower tunes I like.
So go for it. Don't know how old you are but grab a fiddle and try. There are so many learning aids out there. Just look at You Tube and find some. Also get a course with a CD and learn and play along. Mel Bay company sells lots of good courses. I've read that you can learn fiddle if you can sing!! Well I can't sing, but I have learned some basic fiddle playing!!!
