As far as i know it makes no difference which way they are installed. Not done a B414, but i have done several tractors that use the same expanding disc type brakes.
The one thing i would say is that after taking them apart, don't just slap them back together with new brake linings, but machine the outer plates a little to take up the wear that has happened over the last 40 odd years... i took 50thou off mine, and you won't believe the difference it made!
