We have a pole barn attached to the converted barn in which we live. The house is unoccupied during the winter months and is across the driveway. My hope is to replace the pole barn with a properly built actual barn in 2015, since the snow blows in on everything now. My great-uncle in Maine had a barn and house that were connected like you describe. Zach
