Sounds like 2 basket cases I've bought ( AC C. and AC CA). The CA engine, I took home in boxes.-- it was a good winter project. It now runs. I paid $150@ for them. I spent last winter rebuilding the C's Engine. I almost have it ready to start as soon a haying season is over I may just do that.
I'll tell you what I found on these 2 of mine that were sitting outside. Water fills up the oil pan and the crank has to be reground, if possible. If you live in a cold climate, freezing my also end up cracking the cyl. liners. I learned from experience and from this forum not to worry about the cracks in the top of the blocks, between the cyls. most of these types have them. Rebuilding a basket case is like buying a good running tractor on time payments. All the big and little parts that you will need to rebuild start adding up to some big money. Depending on what the engine looks like those rebuild kits with Bearing shells, Pistons, piston pins, rings and liners are the way to go. I've got a D17 that is ready for one of those kits. Good luck.

I HAVE FOUND AN AC MODEL C LOW CROP THAT WOULD WORK GOOD IN MY SMALL ORCHARD. THE TRACTOR HAS EXCELLENT RUBBER AND ALL THE TOOLING BARS. BUT, IT HAS BULLET HOLES IN THE GAS TANK AND RADIATOR, BROKEN STEERING ARM AND THE MOTOR IS FROZE UP. CONDITION OF MOTOR, HARD TO SAY, IAM ASSUMING THE WORST, AN OVERHAUL. THIS WILL BE A WORKING TRACTOR AND LIGHT RESTORATION. ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
