The reason Monopoly money isn't worth much is that anyone can go down to K-mart and buy a Monopoly game for ten bucks or so. How long would it take you to make a bitcoin, if all you have is pencil and paper? You couldn't do it in your lifetime, that's for sure. There are only so many bitcoins in circulation, just as there are only so many dollars, euros or yen in circulation. Whether or not you consider them to worthless is irrelevant. All that matters is if enough people agree they are worth something so there's a ready market for them.
