Yeah, I think so, but I think that you need to keep an open mind as far as the type of farming you do and the methods by which you do it. "Conventional" production ag practices are historically a break-even proposition, so to me, buying a bunch of used equipment to try and get started grain farming is an uphill battle. Inputs have risen at significantly higher rates than cash grain prices have in the last 40 yrs, so I'd be willing to bet that trend will continue as farms get larger and more industrialized. A new guy needs a niche, a low-input niche. Organic veggies, grass fed lamb, grass fed beef, range fed chickens, etc. Most of the success stories I have read recently were about young guys who went this direction. Easier said than done, I know, but most things are. Not to mention you would also have to suffer the ridicule of your "conventional" neighbors :)
