With the price of fuel and machinery today, I wouldn't even attempt to think about it again. Back in the 90's when I bought my place I had a quarter of a million dollars in old used machinery and a hundred and fifty thousand dollars in land. Fuel was around a dollar sixty for diesel. Land taxes started out at eight hundred dollars a year. When I quit they had gone to thirteen hundred a year. Today if I had to buy the machinery it would probably cost around two and a half million or more. Land would probably be on the order of three quarter million. With fuel at four to five dollars a gallon, no thanks. I did make money back then, but not a lot. Ex had a town job so we survived.
