Chances are your lawn clippings will make pretty good hay, most lawns are cut while the grass is young and high in nutrient contents. Removing the grass from your lawn will also remove the nutrients in that grass which would otherwise be returned to the soil but it is the same as any hay field, if you remove the nutrients they must be replaced with something else, either organic materials or commercial fertilizers. If you buy calves 400 lbs. or better then all you really need to grow and fatten them is corn and Alfalfa hay, preferably ground together, keep salt out at all times, if you have pasture thats good to get some spring gain on light calves way cheaper than feeding them.
