Hi, I"m hearing impaired and its called nerve deafness. I"m 76 years old and have worn hearing aids since 1983. Here"s the skinny on hearing aids. When you are tested the audiologist will complete a chart on what frequencies you are deficient in. They have hearing aids that break the sound into 8 to 16 parts (meaning frequencies), amplify the ones you are deficient in and and put the sound back together and into your ear. The larger the hearing aid, the greater the capacity to rebuild the sound. Behind the ear is generally capable of more than the shell, the in the ear or the completely in the canal. The down side of the behind the ear is it can come off in physical activity. Those that fit in the ear are less likely to fall out. But, in the ear fittings are critical. If its not comfortable in your ear, you won"t wear it and you"ve wasted your money.
There are many good brands out there. Phonak is certainly one.
You should get a 30 day trial period with the purchase. Be honest with yourself, if it doesn"t feel right or you"re not hearing what you think you should, take it back.

After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
