: : This past weekend, a 35 year old fellow who lived about a mile and a half from me was killed while working with his tractor. Apparently, he was trying to uproot a bush with a Ford 8N while his fiance watched. The tractor reared up and came right over on top of him and the steering wheel crushed his head. I went over to see the situation. I noticed that the tractor did not have a drawbar nor any implement attached. I was later told that he had the chain attached to the seat support bracket. I had figured from what I saw that it had been attached to the upper link of the three point hitch. In either case, it was too dang high above the axle. It was a reminder to me that you can never be too careful. Many folks have tractors these days who really have never worked with them. Some old-tractor people I have met fall into this category also - they like the old tractors, but don't know how to use them. When the opportunity arises to use their tractor for some purpose, they go to it. If yall know anybody like this, please teach them the basics about tractor safety. : A couple of months ago my brother bought a Ford 9N.It had no brakes. The price was right, and he had the money to repair it,but he did'nt.He's a cheap scate. : His land is very hilly. One of the hills,if any steeper, you would not be able to drive up it.He decided to plow the land, but he planed on staying away from : the big hill. His plan failed. He pulled a u-turn to close to the hill.He ended going down the hill backwords. It's about 150 feet to the bottom. He did'nt panick, : he kept the tractor going straight. He survived & the tractor surved. If he had turned the steering or jumped of the tractor while going down the hill,he might : have been killed. All this happened in front of his 11yr old son.My brother did not learn his lesson. He kept plowing away and he has not fixed the brakes. : He is more concerned with a oil leek on the gear box, because he's loosing valuable oil! : DON'T LET MONEY BE YOUR GOD!If you have the money to fix your tractor,FIX IT,if you don't fix it,park it untill you do.If you don't,IT WILL FIX YOU! When I was young, some friends parents owned a dairy farm. One of their hired hands was cleaning the holding pen with a front end loader. He rolled it over killing himself. No brakes!
