As far as issuing you a salvage title if you buy it back , that is only for vehicles 6 yrs old or newer last I knew and even then they don't always do it. Being it is an '02 , I would take the check if that's the way it goes. You won't increase the sale value of the vehicle by repairing it. With those miles you won't lose anything if you sold it with that small amt of damage. If you buy it back, just put pl &pd and comprehensive on it. Deer are unpredictable in MI and comprehensive is the best kept secret in insurance coverage and the best deal.
