Years ago out is a pasture we buried a old bathtub. Had slack coal buried around the outside of it. The Spring water ran in just at water level, and out at water level and then a large drop. That to keep water from running out the side so the cattle/horses didn't have ice to walk on. it you have wind a ball on the water will keep it open most of the time. I keep think there should be way to make a manual operation. Like a water wheel etc etc. I will keep you posted when I make big $$$ on one. LOL
