I live on the UP mainline and have noticed a couple things. The coal trains are almost totally graffiti free, also the ethanol grain cars and tankers are mostly clean. The coal trains never sit in a yard they are always moving, the ethanol cars may sit at the Ethanol plant but not in the yards. The freight cars that sit in yards in the cities are covered in paint, including grain cars from places like ADM that sit in cities. Some of the freight trains are so painted up that the only ones you notice are the clean ones.
