I used to use whatever was cheapest. Had a scare that I still hope won't come back to haunt me. Here the cheapest oil is $50 from Walmart. I can get AGCO PermaTran 821XL from the dealer for $70. $20 isn't much to pay for peace of mind. You're talking about 10-15 gallons in a 60-80HP tractor. In my case I can save $60 on the oil that is lubricating a $5000 transmission. Change the filters when you're supposed to, change the trans-hydraulic oil at least every 1000 hours. Cheap oils are NOT worth it.
