As others have said single acting cylinder so the weight of the mixer returns it a spring maybe. As for hooking it up lack of info makes it hard for us to help you help your self. Some tractor are set up to use both single and double acting cylinder with no problems others are not and you have to change setting etc. Say you have a Farmall 450 the valves can be set to work singe acting by turning a setting or double. So what tractor do you have so we can answer your question
