We have two water heaters. One was electric, the other propane. Like everything else, water heaters fail. The propane guy failed. Replacing a propane water heater is pretty expensive, initially, purchasing. About 1-2/3ds the cost of NG, about 1-1/2 the cost of an electric, but when NG isn't available, what are your choices? Heat on demand? Those are slick, and long term save you a ton of money in usage costs. Again, without NG but have propane, price a heat on demand. Now are talking about 4 times a standard NG, initially. Heck with it, I ran a 30 Amp service and put in an electric. A real big consideration, factor, is that the propane that I just replaced was in a small closet that is at the back of a long walk in closet without real good air circulaion for ventilation. Now I have two 40 gallon Richardson electric water heaters feeding the house from both ends.
If you can afford it, and they are expensive initially, cost savings in the long run...check on the upfront and usage costs of a "heat on demand". They do work. They actually work.
