Used to be P was a lot cheaper. Now, with our natural gas discoveries in the US, P is back to 1.95 here when gas is 3+ and diesel has hung at 3.60 for over a year. P pretty much tracked gas minus the road tax for many many years. Here you fill-er-up prior to 1 Oct. to get the off season rate.
The real point for propane is it is there when you need it. If the lights go out you still have a cook stove, hot water, and a space heater, not a central, a space heater.
Then if you have a propane fired (usually have plenty of nice clean fuel, no stale gas, no diesel with water in it and all) electric back up system like Generac makes for $5k for 20kw, with a good battery, you have an automatic changeover switch that hooks your house up to the Generac, gets you off the power line so you don't kill a line man working his shorts off in the worst of conditions and you are good to go for the bad weather....if the cupboard is full.
