I'm kind of a news junkie (mostly Fox), and I remember a lot of coverage at the time, but it came and went fairly quickly. The Katrina story had much longer "legs" because there was lots of finger pointing afterwards about the folly of living in a city below sea level, no realistic evacuation effort, slow response by rescuers, the fiasco at the Superdome, etc. This was just a pure natural disaster- nobody's fault, really nothing could have been done differently, and many countries sent aid and help immediately afterward.
