Nice find. It appears to work in same fashion as a ring groove cleaner.
I use a set of thread files that I bought a number of years ago. If I remember they either came from OTC or Lisle (sp). Appears to do about same thing however can be used in close quarters as well. They work well for cleaning aluminum off bolts. Have both SAE and metric.
