put tractor in neutral, engage the clutch then take dist cap off and rotate to where the points are closed. Push them open with ign switch on and see if it generates a nice blue arc. Then rotate the engine with the belt pulley and see if the points fire like they should. Belt pulley is on same side as mag or dist depending on your tractor. Kind of hand way to fix and adjust points.
