Here is one example: Doors will rust at the bottom where the outer skin laps over the inner skin and they put a strip of sealer over it and then paint. The paint cracks, then the sealer, then moisture is in there and protected by the paint that is still intact. I watch for it, and when I find it I drag a screwdriver along the top of the seam to pull off the loose paint and rust. I then give it a good application of WD-40 to get down in and displace the moisture. I let that penetrate for a day or so then spray aerosol chain lube for protection. The chain lube comes out thin then sets up. I believe that fluid film would work to. This has been very effective for me.
