I have large and very long white worms everywhere. Armadillos love them and have a very keen sense of smell. My lawn and some pasture is torn up constantly. The holes are not that large but unsightly.
A tractor can easily roll over them without detection. About the time you get rid of one batch here comes another. If you aren't careful when you shoot them they will run up under the house (their preferred escape) and die. Guess what comes next. So I use 12ga. #4s at 20' and usually get a good kill.
If you never see them, you aren't looking for them at night. They are nocturnal. Once in awhile you will see one in the early morning finishing up the nights handy work.
No gophers here. Lots of skunks in spring and fall mating seasons.
