Have a Lombardini crawler/dozer circa 1963? with 2 cylinder LDAT90/2 (1144 cubic centimeters), 24 Hp. twin cylinder direct injected engine. Engine has 2 reservoirs that I discovered by accident as the plugs in them look like lifting eye bolts. The only engine manual I could find after numerous hours of googling was one from Sweden (in Swedish) that shows the use of these reservoirs with what loosely translates as "starting fluid" to the best of my knowledge. Although I have carefully used a small whiff of ether in the intake to start it, it starts much better with a small amount of ether liquid in these ports, three or four bumps of the starter with the compression released, close compression, and hit starter. Starts evenly and smoothly with both cylinders firing immeadiately as opposed to occasional uneven firing with ether in intake. May try your oil idea. Prior to finding Swedish manual, even Lombardini factory in Italy could/would provide no info on crawler/engine, even doubting that they had made a handful. Mine also pulls extremely well.
