I thought you said you have used this before on your laptop, but by any chance is there already a drive G before you plug it in? I put in 2 drives all the time on all my computers and once i had the same problem only to find that there was already a drive by that letter and they had the same drive letter so it wouldn't really see the second drive. I assigned it a new drive letter and all was fine.
