NCWayne, when I was a kid, if I misbehaved I was beaten with a rawhide-wrapped fiberglass buggy whip. That's how MOM punished us. Dad brought out his grandfather's razor strop and wasn't afraid to use it, either. And this was in the 1960's. If the punishment raised whelps on your body, that just meant that you'd remember the lesson longer...or such was the theory. Damned if I can remember what I got any of those beatings for, but I damn sure remember the beatings themselves.
So any mention of using a buggy whip in that fashion immediately makes me raise an eyebrow. And after all these years, to me it's still no joking matter.
