In the Texas Parks and Wildlife official annual hunting/fishing guide/regulations book a few years ago there was a special article about the 300 Win Mag. They had accumulated data about deer wounded and tracked or lost. The 300 Win Mag was at the top of the list, not some of the smaller calibers as one might expect. Turns out shot placement with the 300 Win Mag was about the worst of all calibers; shooters flinching and getting poor shot placement on the deer, and the 300 bullets not mushrooming properly in the deer.
