Too bad most of the Shermans were equipped with the peashooter 75mm. "Gen. Lesley J. McNair" who was responsible for for thousands of Allied battle deaths and extending the war. As he decided the 75mm was sufficient firepower and the issue was not to be revisited. There was an interim 76mm main gun upgrade late in the war.The Brits went with a yet higher powered long barreled 76mm known as the 17 pounder. The British "Firefly" version of the Sherman is what that medium battle tank should have been in the first place.
