In 92 we drove James' 1965 "heavy half" ton, 3sp Chevy with a 16ft trailer to Gosport, Indiana. Picked up my Dad's 1948 JD A and headed south. Max speed was 50mph. Stopped for gas about every 1-1/2 hrs.
Blew a tire on the trailer in some little town. Stopped at the first open station and the guy had a jack big enough to jack the trailer up without unloading the tractor. Also had a decent tire that would fit the trailer.
James would drive for a couple of hours while I slept. Then I'd drive and he would sleep. We took turns till we made it back to Dallas. It took 22 hrs to drive from Gosport back to Dallas.
We pulled in the drive, shut the truck off, went in the house and crashed. Don't remember how long we slept.
What a trip! Would not even consider doing that now.
