We have 54 Shetlands, 10 angora goats, 3 llamas. Shetlands have a shed they can go in for shelter, but they will stay out in the worst of weather. They were out covered with a layer of snow this afternoon when we went out to feed this afternoon. Wool is so dense that the snow doesn't melt on their backs - same with ice. Goats and llamas are smart enough to go inside! Llamas are supposed to be guard animals. Don't know if they would really confront a coyote or dog, but we haven't had any trouble from them. We had a male llama that would about come unglued if a strange dog came into the yard. Lost him to disease last spring. Think just their size is intimidating to coyotes.
