We live east of the Great lakes, Ontario and Erie. The winds from the west pick up moisture from them and when the wind driven moisture laiden air has ot rise in altitued, over land, the moisture is dumped in the form of snow. A town a little over an hours drive to my north west(Constableville NY) picked up 44" this week. Haven't heard what they got today. These storms move fast with heavy snow and then pass threw, dumping their moisture, and then another one will move in. As you can see we don't have 44" but we have been getting a couple of inches each day. It's what is called "lake effects snow" The fast movers are "clippers" Loren, the Acg.
