Perhaps the tragedy here is that government ever got involved to start with. Apparently some "do-gooder" politicians had passed a law years ago forcing the phone company to provide service in the first place. Now another generation of "do-gooder" politicians see fit to revoke the law. Most corporations could not survive without big-brother government helping them stay in business. Competion has been eliminated and now consumers pay the price for it. Reminds me of a story a friend of mine used to tell. His brother-in-law worked for a company that voted to go union. Some older hands warned against it. But it passed and the union executives came in and laid off about a third of the employees, and demanded higher production from the remainder. Some people like it. Others don"t. That"s America.
