Cranking amps is not the only thing to consider when buying a battery for a diesel. You need to pay attention to the reserve rating on the battery. Many of the 1000 CCA car batteries have a very low reserve rating. A heavy truck or tractor battery may only have a 800 CCA rating but a higher reserve rating. It will crank longer than the 1000 CCA battery with a lower reserve rating.
