36, I don"t think you are looking at what he"s talking about! He"s talking about the gasket between the cover and the starter housing. It"s certainly not waterproof but it could keep out some dust. Personally, I think the cover helps contain the sparks created by the arc when the two copper "points" come together. The insulators around the copper lugs would probably not be called gaskets.
