You can buy or sell corn in IND today at 4.16/ bu at the mkt terminal. Processing that bushel at an ethanol plant gets you 3 gallon of ethanol to sell. Ethanol sold today on open market is roughly 1.95/gallon. So the plant owners have gross sales revenue over raw material cost of 1.69/bushel. If cost to operate the plant is 1.00/bushel, why are ethanol producers losing money? Appears to be excess revenue .69/bushel going to plant owner.
