Here's another "earning your pay". I have a high voltage power line owned by TVA running across my farm. It has the outrageously tall metal towers and it has four huge support arms sticking out from the tower. Each arm supports three power lines, so there are twelve actual conductors (plus a ground) up there.
The wires are kept separated from one another with "star-shaped" separators along the lines between the towers.
About three years ago, TVA replaced all of the separators. They flew a helicopter along the wire with a guy sitting out on the skid of the helicopter. Take an old separator off, put a new separator on.
