Ben, back when I used to run my old Chevy K-20 (350 eng. & auto trans) with a full utility bed, & then hitched on my equipment trailer; I found that it was easier on the truck when pulling hills if I would MANUALLY run the gears instead of letting the trans shift automatically. After cresting the hill, I would put it back in Drive and let it work normally. Saves a lot of wear & tear on the trans .
