I slept on a sleep number bed for about 6 months or so. I wasn't impressed, but maybe I had one of the lower end beds. The problem to me was, it was just like one of the old air mattresses I used to camp on. As soon as you plopped your butt down in it, all the air squished out to the ends, and left you sleeping in a hole. They tried to cover it up by putting thick padding on top of it, but at anything less than full pressure the problem was apparent. After the number bed, I spent the cash for a tempur-pedic, and I'll never have another bed. Well worth the money. Firm, even, comfortable and warm. The only problem I have, is in the summer it's almost too warm to sleep in. In the winter when the temp is cooler in my house at night, it's cozy and warm. Other beds may be as nice, but the sleep number bed I had just seemed to be a crappy re-invention of an air mattress. My two cents worth.....
