I've been using a few CFL bulbs in our barn for a couple of years now. They do take a minute or so to warm up but no problems with them so far. All are in unprotected fixtures. Will be getting some higher wattage ones than I'm using now (100w equivalents) as the conventional bulbs burn out and my supply is depleted. Found 300w equivalents at Lowes, but they are $16 each!
