I have the same problem, mostly I feed mice. Kill maybe 1 in 5 attempts. They're set for a hair trigger, have to place them very gently or they trip. I also tried the water bucket occasionally recommended here, didn't get one mouse.
I did find a fresh half mouse in front of my shop today. Apparently the house cat ventures farther than I thought. Lots of critters will eat mice, but leave half?
No, I'm not allowed to lock her in my shop over night. Occurred to me today that maybe I should install a cat door.
