Is it still the original POS Ground and is the new VR suitable for POS Ground use???
If the cutout relay contacts inside a Voltage Regulator are stuck closed that causes a big time negative discharge and the genny would get hot and even spin if the belt were loosened.
Have you polarized the genny?? If its incorrect and you install a VR and start it the VR can get fried!!!!!!!
Heres my Troubleshooting procedure for non charging and in para 5 it tells you how to by pass the VR by grounding the gennys FLD to see if she charges then to see if the prob is the genny itself or the VR
Work through it...and insure you have the VR wired right???
