I believe Edd in KY just about nailed it. Everyone has their own recipe. In addition to all the vegetables that he mentioned, I add a good handful of okra. I have also heard of diced sweet potatoes being added. If you need a little more beef flavor, you can always throw in a bullion cube or two. And when I can afford it, to make it a special occasion, I actually add some beef! Great recipes are not found in a book, they are created through experimentation.
