Thanks for the reply. The pre teardown compression check was good. There was no way to check that cylinder dry. I poured oil off the top of the piston when I first removed it. # 1 was higher because of that. The cross hatch was good. Some still showing from earlier overhaul. Rings went in smoothly. I used to rebuild engines for a living (not Continental) and this is the first time I could not put my finger on the problem. There is a high volume of oil going into this cylinder. Will wet the plug after running 2 or 3 minutes. Any more suggestions. Thanks Garnett
