Yes it does pay out. The premiums are subsized by the fed. There are several programs/options the one I have is on revenue. If your crop fails it pays, if the price drops below proftable it pays. No self respecting insurance company could afford to offer that kind of insurance. Down side you do not know what the payout will be until late in the year because they do not set the "market price" until after most of the crops are harvested. If you store grain and think you have a claim it can be fun. Just think--how do you know what the yield was--accurately?
