Thanks for all the replies. They are very typical of auto ownership. Some average, some bad reports and glowing recommendations.
She has a 05 Focus now with 128k miles and will be doing to metro driving for her job and wants all wheel drive for some reason. The Focus has been stellar and we are a Ford family. About 9 Fords in immediate family. 02 Escort with 208k and no major repair so the Subaru is out of my comfort zone. I'm going to relay this info to her including the not too great mpg.
