I have never raised beef cattle myself but while growing up Dad always had a few. He had ear corn ground cob and all along with oats. He had some type of supplement added. When we shut them up to fatten he also added molasses. Being over 55 years since I was around it I have no idea of the exact formula. We fed out a car load when I was in high school and lost out butts. Lost the profit to bloat before we switched from hay to straw for roughage. Still had to tap one or two a week for bloat. Two grain trucks of ground feed a week all in bags that had to be carried and dumped in a long cement bunk feeder. No bulk feed trucks. Dad switched to hogs to use our grain crops. Not big for now but he kept a total 500 feeder pigs in cycle. Best profit turn around for him and he sold them graded dressed to Eckrich.
